Second Sunday on King

Second Sunday on King Street downtown is one of my favorite traditions. On the second Sunday of every month, King Street is closed to motor traffic from Calhoun to Broad. Local vendors take over to create an outdoor shopping mall for locals and tourists alike.

My favorite stops include Lowcountry Lemonade, where they squeeze fresh onsite and offer seasonal flavors like Watermelon and Green Tea Mint. I also love thumbing through artwork produced by local painters. There are always fresh flower trucks where you can build your own bouquets. It's a great time to stop in the brick & mortar shops you love without having to worry about parking.

This is also the ultimate "see and be seen" for Charleston's most fashionable pooches. When traffic is shut down on King Street for this monthly pedestrian shopping day, you're sure to see tons of dogs out and about. The retail shop owners on King Street are gracious about letting pets inside, including Woof Gang Bakery - a key player in what makes Second Sunday popular with pet owners.

The best part about the event is the atmosphere. There's just something about walking right down the middle of an otherwise car-congested street that makes you feel like you own the place!
