Gift Shopping in Charleston
If you're downtown Charleston and looking for the perfect gift, whether it's for a friend, a hostess, or just a little something for yourself, here are some of our absolute favorite local spots to shop!
First up, Candlefish. You'll walk in for one candle and leave with three. Known for their signature library of more than 100 scents in those gorgeous apothecary jars, it's a candle lover's paradise. Plus, they offer DIY workshops if you're feeling creative (so fun with a group!). In addition to candles, they carry a curated selection of locally made and Charleston-inspired gifts.
Next is Grit & Grace Studio, where Southern charm meets coastal elegance. From hand-painted oyster shells to delicate jewelry and beautiful art prints, every piece is handcrafted with love and purpose. They also offer permanent jewelry, which is all the rage.
For a timeless, heirloom-worthy gift head to Croghan's Jewelbox. This family-owned shop is full of Charleston history and vintage sparkle. Think antique treasures, classic pieces, and the iconic Goldbug collection. Crogan's is a blend of old-school glamour and modern style where antique treasures meet fresh design.
On upper King Street is HART, a newer jewelry boutique to Charleston's bauble biz. Local creative Hart Hagerty started with silk tassel earrings and then brought fully customizable gold charm necklaces that are all the rage. You pick out your favorite chain and shop among the (literally) hundreds of charms to add to it.
Looking for a thoughtful gift for the book lover in your life? Buxton Books is an independent bookstore that carries everything from low-country literature to best-selling reads. Bonus- the staff gives amazing recommendations. They have a stellar section of Charleston-focused books- everything from cookbooks and architecture to local history and ghost stories.
And finally, we have Old Whaling Co.- a must for bath and body gifts. They're sea-inspired scents like coastal calm and French lavender are so good, you'll wanna grab extras yourself. Lotions, scrubs, soaps- you name it, they've got.
The next two aren't on the peninsula, but they deserve a plug: The Station in Park Circle is a collection of curations from local artists and thrifters. Stop by Child of Mars, a vintage kids clothing display from B.V.'s childhood best friend, Corbett Tripler. The other is Madison Miller Decor on Johns Island. This is a huge 3000 sqft designer marketplace with separate rooms and spaces dedicated to different vendors and artists - clothing, housewares, art, gifts, children's items, accent pillows, etc. The owner Kate Eggleton is a yacht interior designer and has the sharpest eye for finding beautiful items to display.
Charleston is full of charm, and these shops make it easy to take a little piece of home. Happy gifting, and let us know what your favorite local shop is!
