A Day in Wando/Cainhoy
One of the newest developments in town is Point Hope in Wando, which has the Clements Ferry Road corridor growing like crazy all the way out to Cainhoy and Huger on Highway 41. What was once primarily warehouses and trucking traffic is now a bustling community center with its own schools, shops and commercial presence. If you decide to travel beyond Daniel Island to this up & coming part of town, here's how we recommend spending your time!
Start your day at Jeff's Bagel Run in Point Hope Commons. This local spot offers fresh, hand-rolled bagels boiled and baked daily on-site. They have house-made whipped cream cheeses and coffee drinks. If you prefer a sit-down breakfast or brunch, head over to Coastal Skillet nearby in the Village Green district. They have a full Lowcountry brunch menu featuring homemade donuts, omelets, pancakes, and breakfast skillets. The spacious outdoor patio area creates a cozy neighborhood cafe vibe, and they are also open for dinner!
After breakfast, take a relaxing walk along the scenic trail system in Point Hope. The paved network connects local green spaces, tree-lined streets, and residential hamlets along Clements Ferry Road. Take a short drive up Highway 41 towards the edge of Wando to explore the Francis Marion National Forest. Named for one of our state's most notorious revolutionary war heros, this conserved forest offers extensive hiking and biking trails through coastal pine flatwoods and marshes. You'll have great opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography.
The Wando and Cainhoy area is surrounded by waterways—primarily the Wando River, Cooper River, and local creeks—making it a great spot for boating, dockage, boat clubs, and public boat launching. Just a short drive northeast up Highway 41/Cainhoy Road in Huger is the Ralph Hamer Sr Boat Landing which serves as a convenient public access point. The public two-lane boat ramp on Quimby Creek is an excellent launching point for paddle sports, small motorboats, and fishing trips into Francis Marion National Forest waterways.
For dinner back along Clements Ferry Road, head to Catrina's Tacos & Tequila. This is a vibrant spot for street tacos, craft margaritas, and tequilas. There's outdoor seating with lively community atmosphere. Or, stop into Famulari's Pizzeria for New York and Chicago style pizzas, garlic knots and craft beer on draft. They have trivia nights and it's a great place for watching sports!
