Cleaning Tips

As much as we all loathe housework, cleanliness matters when it comes to your home's value. It demonstrates pride of ownership and preserves the condition, which is often a buyer's first impression.

Our sellers usually spend $300-$700 on a professional deep clean before listing their homes. To help you clean like the pros, here are some tips from our trusted cleaner, Gretta Stanelle with GRS Cleaning:

  • Dawn dish liquid and a magic eraser can clean almost anything. They are the 2 most important supplies I carry.

  • Here is the only way to get the grates from a gas stove clean: Place outside in a black trash bag with 2 cups of ammonia. Tie up the bag and leave outside overnight. Rinse with a garden hose, and they will be completely free of debris and greasy film.

  • Use a vacuum in place of a broom whenever possible, especially when pets are in residence. A broom will reintroduce dust and dander back into the air, while the vacuum will remove it.

  • Maintain your vacuum. Change or wash your vacuum filters according to manufacturer directions. If you have multiple pets, cut the recommended time in half.

  • Soap scum comes from bar soap. Using a liquid soap may cost more but will save time and effort when cleaning a tub/shower.

  • Installing a detachable handheld shower head will allow you to reach the whole shower/tub surface, making cleaning easier. Always use it with hot water when cleaning and when you're done bathing, a quick rinse with hot water will help keep build-up at bay.
