A Day in Park Circle

When the weather is nice (which is almost year round here in Charleston), you can catch me and my family walking around the neighborhood or riding bikes to grab a bite to eat or playing at the NEW world's largest inclusive playground. We love living in Park Circle mainly because of the walkability and green spaces as well as the preservation of history, diversity and eclectic architecture around town. Park Circle is known for having a little something for everyone (kid friendly meals, Cajun, Asian and BBQ), but this local has a few favorite hangouts that I want to share with you!

Start your day at Orange Spot or Odd Duck for some coffee and a breakfast sandwich. If you are in Park Circle on a Sunday, hit up MoMo for brunch. Order the shrimp and grits, mimosa or Bloody Mary served with a shrimp, or just order anything with shrimp! Sit outside on the patio at MoMo for a 360 view of Riverfront Park and the Cooper River. Riverfront Park has local artisan sculptures on display year round and is great for kids & dogs on leash. Stroll over the pedestrian bridge over Noisette Creek to Coast Brew Co. (order their Kolsch for a quick thirst quencher). If you want to stay on the brewery bike ride tour, then pedal on over to Commonhouse for a cold one and a homemade pretzel. Sit outdoors, put your feet up, listen to the band on stage and soak up the rays.

Looking for lunch? Grab a snack plate, pizza and seasonal salad at EVO Pizzeria (perfect for sharing) then grab a Snickerdoodle for dessert from EVOBakery around back. They carry local brews on tap! (Ask for Hobcaw Brew Co.) We enjoy sitting outside under the canopies. Continue down E. Montague to Spruill Avenue for a little shopping spree at The Station. It's fun to get creative and make your own flower arrangement from the bouquet bar at Roadside Blooms. Or, just spend the afternoon at the newly resurfaced dog park on Mixson Avenue with those precious fur babies. Maybe grab your tennis racket for a game at the newly remodeled Danny Jones Rec Center.

Ready for dinner? I am! It's a toss-up between Jackrabbit Filly, Paddock & Whiskey or Stems & Skins. If spicy is your thing, go to Jackrabbit Filly and order the Sichuan Hot Karaage. That chicken is too spicy for me, so I order the pork & cabbage dumplings. Our new favorite spot for dinner and drinks is Paddock & Whiskey - the burger is delicious. The staff is knowledgeable and they will educate you if you are new to the whiskey scene. If wine is your drink of choice, go next door to Stems & Skins. The staff there will help pair your wine with unique cheeses and meats. If you don't drink alcohol, no worries, all 3 of these places still have the ambiance that you crave! Perfection!

A day in Park Circle isn't complete without dessert at Park Circle Creamery. Order quickly because the best flavors sell out. If you see blueberry cheesecake on the menu, order it while you can and get it in a homemade waffle cone.

If you are ever in our neighborhood around the holidays, you are in for a magical treat. The Christmas lights are on display starting Thanksgiving weekend. It has become a Yandle family tradition to watch the tree lighting in early December and walk the circle at night to see the twinkling lights.
