A Day on James Island

The best way to start your day on James Island is with a honey lavender latte and a chocolate cruffin or strawberry pop tart from my favorite bakery, Baguette Magic on Folly Road! If you're in a hurry they offer online ordering for easy pick up.

If you're looking for a quick playground pit-stop check out Pinckney Park at 461 Fort Johnson Road. If you have more time, James Island County Park is where you want to be. With tidal creeks, the county's largest dog park and 4 miles of paved trails, it's my favorite park on the island because it has so much to offer! From the newly constructed fishing dock to the Splash Zone Water Park there is something for everyone. We frequent the playground, trails, Splash Zone, and of course the Holiday Festival of Lights in December. The park also offers kayak and paddle boat rentals if you're looking for more action. Entrance is $2/person and goes towards improving the park. Here is my daughter Olive and a blue heron she spotted while on a walk this past January.

If you need some retail therapy, Tres Carmen is a locally-owned women's boutique filled with everything from trendy basics to cocktail sequins. The Wild on Folly Road is my go-to for spoiling the fur babies. It's locally owned, and they are always so helpful when you're looking for something new for your pup to try. If you're shopping for the perfect gift, you must check out Charleston Flower Market on Maybank, and I dare you to not pick up anything for yourself! Stop by LB Treats across the street on your way out for a gourmet cookie or tart.

Hungry? Time for Paisanos! Our favorite pizzeria offers great pizza, calzones and even better wings. The honey bbq and homemade blue cheese dressing will have you wanting seconds! Add a greek salad for some veggies. This neighborhood favorite has arcade games to entertain the littles (and adults too!), lots of TVs for the sports watcher, and local drafts on tap.

If it's Sunday you can usually find us on the deck at the Charleston Pour House, our local music hall and tavern. The PoHo hosts a Sunday Brunch Farmer's Market featuring local produce, artisans, food trucks and live music. Motown Throwdown kicks off the afternoon starting at 1pm with family-friendly grooves. I love getting my produce for the week, followed by a mimosa and family dance party on the deck before heading home for a late afternoon nap. During the week there is usually happy hour on the deck showcasing local talent. Check out their calendar as plenty of your favorites will likely be stopping through on tour.
